Main Street, Lake Placid, New York

Lake Placid is a village near the lake of the same name, in New York State’s Adirondack Mountains. It is known as a Winter Olympics venue and a hub for snow sports and other outdoor activities. Steeped in history with a mix of old Adirondack charm and modern lodging, that makes for a perfect upstate escape. Below video has glimpses of taking a stroll down Main Street.

We started our journey from Hudson Valley New York via the scenic Long Mountain Parkway through I-87 NYS Thruway, and Keene Valley to get to Lake Placid. The traveling time was around 4 hours, there few places we stopped for a break, and one of the best places to worth stopping was at the Capital Region Welcome Center on NYS thruway northbound between Exit 21B and  21A, in New Baltimore, New York. Whether just for a break or to pick up a few delicious items from the Taste NY Market and store. Explore the welcome center Saratoga racing-inspired entrance with Dutch-inspired architecture, a floor-to-ceiling selfie wall, and a two-part gallery wall with images inside wagon wheels.

Another great place to stop and take in the natural beauty is in Keene Valley, Home Of The Adirondack High Peaks. It is just a short drive from Keene Valley to Lake Placid.

Mirror Lake

Part of what makes Lake Placid’s main street so enticing is the way it winds along the shores of Mirror Lake. Beautiful in every season, surrounded by mountains blanketed in color,  reflecting in the placid water. There are many ways to enjoy the lake from Main Street. Canoe, kayak, paddle board, and even water bikes and sail boats are available for rent at multiple shops along Main Street. Or, bring your own to launch at the public dock.

Mid’s Park is located in the center of Main Street. It offers a grassy lawn with benches and chairs, and sit lakeside is one my favorite things to do here! Mid’s Park has spectacular views of Mirror Lake and the surrounding mountains.  Here, you can sip coffee, and enjoy a peaceful waterfront moment amidst the bustle of downtown.
